Litchfield's Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners provide cost effective and greener cleaning throughout Newcastle, Ponteland, Hexham, Gosforth, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Sunderland, Durham and Northumberland.
1 INSPECTION
Before we start we make sure we know what your carpet or upholstery type is, so we use the right cleaning process. We also inspect it for spots and stains and give you a hand-written report and quotation, so you know exactly what’s involved upfront with no hidden costs. The best results for your carpets and upholstery can only be obtained via a thorough and professional on-site audit.
Customers are then advised whether a 'chemdry' style dry clean or deep down steam clean is most suitable for their carpets at this time.
2 VACUUM
Carpets are then deep vacuumed with specialist, powerful dry vacuum cleaning equipment to remove any loose dirt.
3 PRE-SPRAY
The carpet is then pre-sprayed with the latest micro splitting agents and/or detergents (depending upon carpet type and soil level). This splits the chemical bond between the dirt and the carpet fibres, allowing easy removal. A pre-spray agent is not a detergent, and leaves no residue in the fibres, which could attract and trap dirt in the future.
4 MASSAGE
The pre-spray agent or detergent is then gently massaged into the carpet using a Contra Rotating Brush Machine to ensure all fibres are treated. This also mechanically loosens the dirt, further assisting in its later removal.
5 EXTRACT
Your carpet is then cleaned using a High Powered Hot Water Extraction Machine which will include a ph neutralising rinse agent if detergent pre-sprays are used. This simultaneously sprays water under pressure into the fibres, and vacuums up any soil or debris, leaving your carpet beautifully clean.
6 GROOM
Where required we use a grooming brush to reset the pile in your carpets to give them optimum appearance.
7 FASTEST DRYING
Most carpet cleaners in Newcastle and Northumberland skip this, but Litchfield's fan dry your carpets to ensure drying time is minimal (usually 1 or 2 hours max humidity permitting).
Our upholstery cleaning follows a similar process.
Don’t waste your money on a new suite when Litchfield’s safe cleaning can revitalise your old one.
We test all fabrics for their suitability for either steam cleaning or dry cleaning, so your valuable soft furnishings are in safe hands.
Litchfield’s leather cleaning
Leather cleaning is also a speciality, from modern suedes and nubuck to antique leathers. We will also be able to quote you on leather restoration.

We can also restore faded leather and undertake minor leather repairs after survey.
We use the LTT Leather Care range of products which is synonymous with quality and respected by many of the world’s cleaners and repair technicians such as Harrogate's LTT Leather Care.
The products we use have become market leaders for their quality and performance.
If you would like your leather problem assessing please email your photographs to us and we will contact you with a solution to your problem.
The products we use are suitable for use on furniture, car interiors, handbags, luggage, clothing, aircraft and boat interiors. They are not designed for shoe and equine leather which have their own specialist ranges of products.
Litchfield’s Leather Tip: Wipe over your leather furniture with a damp cloth on a regular basis (every week/two weeks) to remove surface dust and dirt and add moisture to the leather.
Our Oriental rug cleaning and Persian rug cleaning and restoration service is highly specialised. Please call us for a quotation. We will also undertake a repair and re-tufting service. This is a specialist service and will entail picking up from your home and working on the rug at our premises. Litchfield’s is the healthy choice for a hygienic home
Your carpets and rugs act like filters in your home for indoor air. Their fibres absorb pollutants and particles and hold them fast.
When filters get clogged they cannot absorb anything else, and every time you step on a ‘full’ filter you release contaminants back into the air.
Cleaning your carpet is key to a healthy indoor environment, and Litchfield's recommend that carpet and upholstery cleaning is scheduled from every six months to every eighteen months depending on the number of people and pets in the home, if you smoke, as well as whether you suffer from allergic sensitivities.
Litchfield’s can advise you on needs, and using the right equipment and cleaning solutions, can enhance your home environment and protect your family’s health.
What to Expect from Litchfield’s 7 Step Cleaning
Carpet cleaning is one of the few unregulated industries and that means it’s easy for ‘cowboys’ to gain entry without any foundation of professionalism.
Customers do not understand that many cleaning chemicals can be dangerous if they’re not used expertly. Crucially, if an untrained operator comes to your home claiming they can clean carpets and they’re using the wrong equipment (such as a hired shampooer) you can be certain that chemicals are not being removed safely.
Honest, ethical, reliable
Everyone has heard tales about carpets ruined through ‘cowboy’ operators or fly by night companies offering low coupon incentives to get their foot in the door, then hard selling customers into expensive bills they feel pressurised to pay.
When you open the phone book it’s almost impossible to tell the good and bad cleaners apart, or the ones you would never want entry to your home. Great cleaners like Litchfield’s Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning work hard in the Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham area to distinguish themselves from untrained operators who use unsafe cleaning practices, hard-sell tactics, and sometimes employ ‘unsavoury’ employees.
Pet dander, carpet dust mites and other micro-organisms can cause poor indoor air quality and the ‘house-a-tosis’ that some homes have because simple vacuuming are carpet shampooing doesn’t clean deep down in the carpet fibres.
Litchfield’s not only deep-cleans your carpet using high pressure extraction, we ensure your carpets are rinsed thoroughly to leave neutral ph, and dry quickly, leaving your home smelling fresh and hygienic.
The cleanest, tidiest people often have unhygienic carpets. That’s because carpets hide dirt deep down, however much you vacuum.
• Animal dander and bacteria
• Pet fleas, dust mites and their faeces
• Pollens, fungus, mildew
• Human skin cells, urine, sweat
• Pollutant residues, cigarette smoke and countless other chemicals
• Silverfish and carpet moths
Litchfield’s also provides a range of Stain Shield and Actigard home protection treatments.
Litchfield's 7 step cleaning regime in conjunction with Actigard is a proven system of cleaning and maintenance that wipes out soils, toxins, fungus, bacteria, pollen, chemicals, ash and other air pollutants in your carpets.

The elimination of dust mites and other irritating allergens
The quality of the air in your environment is improved.
Reducing these factors within an allergenic environment is known to reduce and helping prevent asthma and other allergy related ailments.

Regular Litchfield’s Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning doesn’t only look and smell good, it does you good too!
Example of Typical Charges for a 3 Bed Semi:
STAIRS £35 ……… AVERAGE LOUNGE £39 ……… SINGLE BEDROOM £36
DOUBLE BEDROOM £45 ……… LANDING £30
THE PRICES WE QUOTE ARE THE PRICES YOU PAY, WITH NO ADDED EXTRAS AND NO ADDED VAT.
One of the biggest misconceptions with carpet cleaning is that you should be able to get an exact quote over the phone. I wish this was true, but it isn't.
First, reputable carpet cleaning companies price cleaning by the square foot. This way a company can include all the steps necessary in their price to thoroughly clean your carpet without extra charges being added on once the company arrives.
If you would like me to tell you an exact cost of cleaning your carpet, I need to know the exact number of square feet that you want cleaned. You'll be glad to know that the carpet area to be cleaned is not nearly as great as most people think. For example, if you want your entire home cleaned and your home is 2000 sq.ft., the amount of carpeting might be only 1200 sq.ft. This is because most home measurements are outdoor measurements. Plus I make deductions for furniture you don't want moved such as wall units, beds and other unmoveable pieces of furniture.
As you can imagine not all rooms are the same size, so every quote will be different even if the number of rooms are the same. If you would like me give you a price over the phone, I will need you to take a couple of minutes to just measure the length and width of each room you would liked cleaned, this way I can give you a more accurate price.

Litchfield’s Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning, Matfen, Northumberland NE20 0RP
9:00 - 17:00
Litchfield’s Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning endeavours to use only highly developed, environmentally friendly products to protect the environment, our clients, and their furnishings.
We use both detergent based and non-detergent products, called microsplitters. The latter are technologically advanced solutions, which allow us to clean carpets and upholstery, without leaving damaging trace elements in the atmosphere, or in the material cleaned.
This is important for the environment because our cleaning products results in zero carbon emissions.
Some of our products however, like the detergents you use in your washing machine are not classified as entirely green products, though the methods we use to clean and the way we dispose of our waste makes Litchfield’s a very responsible company. Where soiling is excessive or on certain materials, it is not always appropriate to use the ‘green’ microsplitter products as certain stains and soils are not as readily removed as they are with detergent solutions.
We will however always use neutralising rinse agents where alkaline or acidic detergents have been used to return all fibres to a neutral ph level.
This is important for you as a client because: No residues remain in fibres to attract dirt, or cause unresolved future problems whatever method we use.
These means potential for skin irritations and airborne allergens are reduced through our methods, maintaining a cleaner, healthier home environment.
Hence, our carpet cleaning procedure is extremely effective, whilst remaining kind to you, your carpets & upholstery, together with the environment.

General:
All delicate or breakable furniture and items must be removed by the client before Litchfield’s arrive to undertake cleaning. Litchfield’s technicians will not move items of furniture that are deemed too heavy for health & safety reasons. Any furniture items needing to be moved that can be shifted manually without excessive physical exertion by a Litchfield’s technician should first be emptied by the client prior to arrival. If this has not been undertaken Litchfield’s will clean around the furniture to best advantage. If the client insists Litchfield’s move furniture that has not been emptied, providing it is safe to do so this will be done at the client’s own risk. Furniture that is moved whilst full may buckle, twist or break. Litchfield’s accepts no responsibility should damage occur in this instance and the company reserves the right not to be accountable for:- any cleaning job not complete due to a lack of hot water or power in the client’s premises; third party (pets included) entering or present at the client’s premises during cleaning, causing re-soiling; wear or discolouration of fabrics or fibres becoming more visible once soil has been removed; any inability to remove old or permanent stains that cannot be cleaned using standard carpet & upholstery cleaning processes, or odours re-activated from old spills/stains.
Equipment:
Litchfield’s will provide all necessary cleaning supplies and apparatus to execute the work specified by the client in a professional manner approaching our task with care and attention to provide a satisfactory level of service. The client will agree to supply all hot water and electricity for the works to be undertaken. Failure to supply this may result in a cancellation fee of £60.00 to cover loss of work, which may have to be rescheduled at a later date.
Carpets, Upholstery etc:
Furnishings are typically not produced with future cleaning requirements taken into consideration by the manufacturer. The result is that some furnishings may be cleaned in accordance with generally accepted industry standards, yet the appearance of such furnishings can be detrimentally affected by cleaning. Because of the array of fibre and fabric blends, soiling and environmental conditions that may exist within each product, Litchfield’s cannot be held responsible for: Aging or deterioration, marks migrating from fabric backing, dye instability, damaged foam cushions, white fabric restoration, urine contamination, finish or sheen/glaze loss, worn piping/welting, damaged zips, failure of fabric backing, shrinkage, stain removal attempts, browning, yellowing, fading, water marks, pre-existing wear, loose frames/legs, nicked wood trim or veneer, loose or missing buttons.
Colours:
If carpets and upholstery have been produced using stable dyes, colour loss, colour change or colour bleed should not result during professional cleaning using the appropriate cleaning system. Inspection and testing will identify fabrics which could develop normal colour problems during cleaning. Special dry or low moisture cleaning will ensure the maximum soil removal possible without risk of colour damage.
NB:
Fabrics or fibres with excessive soil may not release all soil and stains without risk of damage to colours.
Colour problems and/or hidden stains hidden by excessive soil may only show up after soil removal attempts are undertaken. Litchfield’s will not be responsible for these problems.
Instruction Labels on Fabrics:
Attached to many fabrics is a care label with cleaning guidance, usually found under seat cushions or frames or under rugs. However, excessive soiling or poor maintenance procedures may necessitate a cleaning approach or system other than that recommended, and Litchfield’s will require your permission to do so. Any additional risks or limitations will be reviewed with you and will require your approval prior to any work commencing and by agreeing to such, Litchfield’s will not be responsible for any damage caused.
Seams and Edgings:
It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that carpet edges and seams are securely fitted prior to Litchfield’s commencing cleaning. If any seams or edging are insecure, Litchfield’s will not accept responsibility for any loose fibres or yarns becoming caught in any machinery and pulling out, or for movement/seam separation caused by deterioration of carpet backing or glue and/or adhesive tapes.
Shrinkage:
May occur when fibres - usually consisting mostly of natural fibres (except Belgian wiltons – manufactured with synthetic fibres i.e. olefin with a jute backing) are exposed to liquids from accidents, maintenance spotting or inappropriate cleaning attempts. Litchfield’s will undertake to avoid such shrinkage problems by identifying problem fabrics/fibre types. However, movement and shrinkage may occur as a consequence of poorly fitted or replaced carpets/seams/edgings. Accordingly, Litchfield’s will not be responsible for such movement or shrinkage.
Upholstery Deterioration:
Fabrics exposed to heavy soil or heavy usage or exposed to strong light will deteriorate. Natural fibre fabric constructions are highly sensitive to these conditions.
NB:
Heavily soiled fabric that is deteriorated may disguise certain conditions that are not apparent until after cleaning, i.e. colour loss, fabric fraying and worn or loosened fibres. Litchfield’s will not be responsible for these conditions.
Dye instability on the surface of leather can be caused by disproportionate wear. Grease and soil gradually coats the surface of leather and can disguise erosion of original lacquer on most leathers. Litchfield’s will not be responsible for any colour erosion/flaking due to this existing problem, which may only become visible post-cleaning.
Fibre Protection Treatments:
Protecting agents applied by Litchfield’s are applied in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and are not designed to give complete protection, only to assist in repelling soil for a short duration with no assurance they will completely stop any liquid from penetrating fibres. This is explained at quotation stage and any treatments will be applied after educating clients about treatment limitations with client consent. All protectors become ineffective after a certain time period and clients must take this into consideration when purchasing treatments. Litchfield’s do not accept responsibility for treatment product results or limitations, and if there are complaints relating directly to the treatment products applied then the client must contact the manufacturer directly in writing (details will be made available on request).
Cancellation:
Clients may cancel or re-schedule a clean or service by giving at least 24 hours notice. If Litchfield’s are not given at least 24hrs notice, a fee of £60.00 is due immediately from the client to cover loss of income. Litchfield’s may charge a cancellation fee of up to 50% of the quoted price for any booked service. If Litchfield’s travels to a client’s address on a pre-arranged day and the client or agreed intermediary is not in, or Litchfield’s cannot gain entry to the property by arrangements made by the client, the client shall be liable for a cancellation fee of £60.00.
Payment:
Payment is due as soon as works have been completed, either by cheque (made payable to Litchfield’s) or cash. An invoice will be submitted straight away or posted (where services are not completely clarified by the client). For commercial clients a 30 day payment term is provided. For all clients, failure to pay on time will result in a late payment surcharge of 10% of original quotation price. Minimum charge for any service is £60.00. All costs incurred by Litchfield’s in the pursuit of late payment will be added to the outstanding balance owed.
Claims:
In a case of complaint, Litchfield’s requires notification within 24 hours after completion of the cleaning work. No claims will be accepted after this time. In the event of a client being dissatisfied with the standard of work undertaken, Litchfield’s must be allowed to return and attempt to remedy any shortfall in the work at no extra charge. Litchfield’s insurance policy will cover any proven accidental damages caused by an operative working on behalf of Litchfield’s. The client understands and accepts that breakage/damage or theft must be reported within 24 hours from our service date. Failure to do so will entitle the client to no claim.
